The gear-cutter machines division will be presenting an LC 380 gear hobbing machine assembled at Liebherr Gear Technology Co. in Saline, USA. This machine is employed to great effect in the production of commercial vehicle transmissions as well as at suppliers for that industry. The machine can be run in either dry or wet hobbing mode and features state-of-the-art drive technology. Optionally available are various deburring tools, which can be fully integrated into the machine. In addition, a high-performance internal milling head with an output of 53 kW (70 HP) will be presented for module 25 (1 DP). This milling head is designed for use in gear-hobbing machines producing gears with a diameter of 1 to 6 metres which are used, for example, in wind power plants.

For the field of material handling technology, Liebherr will be displaying an overhead robot which interacts with a linear motion system. This Liebherr innovation has the capacity to greatly increase process flexibility. Depending on the required conditions for loading, the automation systems can be mounted on a mutual carrier. At the IMTS 2008, the exhibit is combined with a maintenance-free, non-cable drive developed in cooperation with SEW-EURODRIVE GmbH & Co KG Bruchsal. The drive's design achieves a substantial reduction of maintenance and repair costs.

A further innovation Liebherr will be presenting is a pallet-handling system for machine tools. Available in three sizes, the pallet-handling system allows covering transport loads ranging from 500 to 5,000 kg. The number of connected machines as well as equipment and storage slots remains variable for all sizes. Thanks to its unique front access, both manual and automatic operation is possible.
